They looked at her with respect.
Because now she had nothing left to gain.
And she was still there.
That was when Chinedu told her to meet him privately.
Not as a worker.
Not as a test subject.
As a man who could not delay truth any longer.
They walked to a quiet corner of the unfinished site, steel and concrete rising around them like the bones of something not yet complete.
Then he said it.
“My name is not just Chinedu.”
Uchi listened without moving.
“I am the primary investor behind Okoye Holdings. I hold controlling interests in several companies—including partnerships connected to Okafor Developments.”
Silence.
Then the rest.
He had disguised himself.
He had come to test people.
To see how they treated a man who seemed to have nothing.
She had not been meant to be part of it.
That part, he said, had not been planned.
But he had known who she was.
He had watched.
Measured.
Waited.
And when the sabotage began, he had still said nothing.
Not until everything had already burned.
For a moment, Uchi only stared at him.
Then the pieces aligned.
The calm.
The distance.
The way he never asked for anything.
The control.
“You knew,” she said quietly.
“Yes.”
“And you said nothing.”
“Yes.”
“And you watched?”
“Yes.”
The word hit harder every time.
Then Uchi stepped back.
Not from anger.
From hurt.
“You didn’t test me,” she said. “You used me.”
He tried to speak, but she didn’t stop.
“I gave you everything I had—not because I wanted something from you, but because I believed in you. And you turned that into an experiment.”
“I’m sorry,” he said.
But now the words were too small.
“You don’t get to be sorry now,” she said. “You don’t get to decide when the truth matters.”
Then she turned and walked away.
He did not follow.
Because for the first time, he understood something no wealth had ever taught him:
Some damage cannot be repaired with power.
Still, he did what he should have done sooner.
He used his real reach, his real influence, and his real evidence.
He exposed everything.
Financial trails.
Internal communications.
The coordination between Amecha and Chief Oena.
